My daughter has just announced she is engaged, and my husband and I couldn’t be happier for her. Wedding planning and details have been the talk for about two weeks now around my house. They are trying to finalize when and where they are thinking about getting married. Her and her fiancé really want a small backyard wedding. I got to thinking… We have a big enough backyard to host a small wedding, why not have the wedding in our backyard? We live in one of those charming Southern home plans, which have the perfect environment for a backyard wedding. I could build a gazebo and plant a beautiful garden around it. I proposed the idea to my daughter, and she loved it. She said if I think I can pull it off and transform the backyard into a serene wedding location she is all for it. Now the pressure is on me to rise to this challenge.

The location of the gazebo will prove to be the most important decision. There needs to be plenty of room for a guest list of about fifty people and an aisle for the bride to walk down. The gazebo needs to also be easily accessible and visible for the entire audience. I began researching tips for the perfect gazebo placement, and this gazebo idea can either turn out looking amazing and really become the main focal point of my backyard or appear like an after thought, which is what I do not want.

After much research and planning, the location of the gazebo has been picked. Picture this, a stone walkway with the gazebo as the end point all centered in the very back of the backyard giving it a mysterious look without being too hidden from the audience. This will surely draw wedding guests’ eyes to the bride and groom. Now that I have the location picked out, it is time to move on to gazebo design.

Little did I know there are a million different options and choices from size, style, material and shape. This part will require consultation with my daughter. First let’s start with the size. We need a bigger gazebo that will fit a bride, groom and minister. I want a gazebo that screams romantic and charming. So, I have chosen a round Victorian style gazebo made out of lighter colored wood. Now the last step is accessorizing the gazebo. Since it is for a wedding, I will not put in a bench and sitting area until after the wedding. I can decorate it with flowers and vines or whatever my daughter wants for her big day!

I have everything planned out from the location of the gazebo to the style of it in order to create the most beautiful backyard wedding ever. I can’t wait to get building and see the final product all dressed up for the wedding. This will also make a perfect edition to my Country home even after the wedding is all over!
